Team twins earn title of 2017’s community players

-

TWINS who play for Widnes Vikings have been recognised for their work to support the club’s programmes across Hal- ton.

Ted and Jay Chapelhow have been named the Community Players Of The Year by the club.

The pair have assisted countless visits and campaigns from inspiring younger generations to enjoy healthy lifestyles with the Vikings education and health programmes, to leading efforts to encourage organ donation.

They have attended several clubs to help deliver Sky Try Sessions and even giving up their weekends to volunteer with the Widnes Vikings Development Squad.

This year, the twins used their big personalities and commitment to making a difference to great effect when they led a video campaign to help take pressure off vital NHS services, including A&E and GP surgeries.

The campaign went viral and received more than 100,000 views.

Ted and Jay helped carry the message from the campaign to local – such as the Weekly News – and national media, ensuring it was an incredible success for the NHS.

Widnes Vikings chief executive James Rule said: “Ted and Jay are truly deserving of this award.

“They embrace their community responsibilities and are always keen to make a difference.

“Their positive and welcoming personalities make them ideal ambassadors for our club and Rugby League.

“The sheer breadth of programmes they have supported – from assisting the NHS, to supporting our Game Changer programme in local schools – is incredible. They should feel proud to collect this award and to know that they make a real difference.” ●
