Holland’s trick helps U7 Greens

-

HFH U7 Greens 40 Woolston U7 16 HALTON Farnworth Hornets U7 Greens faced a well-drilled Woolston side at Wilmere Lane.

The pitch was heavy and sodden from recent rainfall but a strong run from powerhouse Malachy Arrowsmith early in the first set put the Greens on track for what was to be a solid performance from the whole squad.

Woolston reacted swiftly with a wellworked try from their first spell of possession but it was Luke Holland who showed he is a class act, taking the ball from his own line and breaking through the attempted tacklers to sprint the full length of the pitch for what proved to be the first of a memorable hat-trick of tries.

Outstanding defensive work from Arrowsmith, Billy Rowlands, Jackson Riley and Isaac O’Brian proved to be the crucial factor in this battle of two evenly-matched attacking sides.

A further brace of tries from both Riley and O’Brian and a second for top tackler award-winner Arrowsmith late on proved too much for the visitors who never gave up and managed a further two scores before man-of-the-match Cobie Scott crossed the line to close his and the team’s outstanding display.

Coaches’ award went to Luke Holland with the parents’ trophy going to the ever-improving Riley Wycherley. HFH U11 Greens 22 Widnes St Maries 16 A VERY close game saw HFH U11s Greens win 22-16 in a local derby against St Maries.
