Steady Eddie holds his nerve to secure success for Stadium in classic

ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Mill Brow SC RTB League continued.

In Division One, the Millfield at home to Halton Stadium started badly as they conceded the first three games to the Stadium’s Alan Magee (17 darts), John Kilkenny (17 darts) and Joe Price (19 darts). The Millfield rallied, recovering two games via Mike Howard & Alan Sutton and Brian Dutton & Ian Wall (17 darts).

The Stadium widened the gap again with a win from Alan Magee & Joe Kelly (19 & 14 darts). The Millfield were equally determined as they took the next two contests via Brian Dutton (nine darts) and Mike Howard (17 darts) to make it 4-4.

Eddie Dootson then stepped up to the oche and won the final game and the match for Halton Stadium.

Simms Cross Institute at home to Goldmine conceded the first three games to the visitors’ Gary Johnson, Tim Hunt and John Taylor.

The Stute recovered the next point through their opening pair, Glynn Owen & Dave Batty with 10 and 13 dart legs.

The Goldmine’s Sean Bell & Phil Corless added a further point to their tally. The Stute were still in with a chance as they took the next two contests via Tony Green & Mick Cullen and Glynn Owen.

However, luck was not on their side as Sean Bell claimed the penultimat­e game securing the match for the Goldmine. For the record, the Stute’s Brian Abbott took the final game but it was merely a consolatio­n.

The Wellington hosting Widnes Bowling Club took the first game through Barry Highfield. Scott Byrne (14 darts) then levelled for the Bowler. The Wellington’s John Lewis took the Wellington ahead, but not for long as the Bowler’s Scott Byrne & Alex McGill (13 darts) drew level. A further win from Scott Grady & Joe Batty then took them ahead. Parity was restored as the Wellington’s Karl Whitfield & John Barber (13 darts) kept their side in with a chance.

Both teams had fought hard, but the score was settled in Widnes Bowling Club’s favour, with two in a row from Joe Batty (10 darts) and Scott Grady (14 darts). The Wellington’s Karl Whitfield took the final game.

Widnes Cricket Club at home to the Mill Brow SC saw the Brow’s Kevin Helps, Jack Dunn and Alan Friar claim the first three games.

The Cricket Club recovered two games through Adam Mellor & Danny Mellor and Kevin Baxter & Billy Cain.

The Brow then won the next contest through Ray Linger & Dave Powell, edging them nearer victory.

Adam Mellor (nine darts) gave the Cricket Club the next game, but the Brow’s Carl Hackney took the penultimat­e game ensuring their victory before teammate Dave Powell added the final game of the night sealing a 6-3 success.
