Reds are marvels in the mud

-

Hindley U8 5 HFH U8 Reds 8 FOR a second week in a row, Halton Farnworth Hornets U8 Reds could only field seven players due to sickness in the camp – however the fact that the boys had no replacements available did not bother them in the slightest and every player was outstanding.

In attack there was some strong running from Kian Rose and Euan McPherson who both took the ball up the centre of the park which drew Hindley’s defence in. This allowed the speed men to work the space with an excellent try from Cian Winstanley and a brace from Kobe McKinnon and James Prescott who crossed the whitewash five times.

In defence, it was Aiden Clarke keeping the centre of the field locked and Mathew Sinclair seemed to cover every inch of the park with 16 tackles while teammate James Prescott topped the tackle count with 19.

However it was Euan McPherson who took the man-of-the-match award with some barnstorming runs and doubling the amount of tackles he had made in any previous game.

In a really great game of junior rugby league in extremely muddy conditions, every player did their respective club proud indeed.

HFH U8 Greens 4 Crosfields Vipers 13 DESPITE the final scoreline, this was a brave and gutsy display against a superb Crosfields team.

Cooper Di-Luca was top tackler but the fine efforts of Ben Grady, Will Newton and Daniel Stephens should not be overlooked. All four tackled more than they have before against some ferocious running.

Aaron Ward ran hard, well above his size and scored two tries which earned him the coaches’ award. Joe Bebbington also scored and showed his passing skills and organised the team on attack, setting up Ellis Lloyd for his try with a beautiful long pass that was worthy of a game in a much higher age group.

Man of the match this week went to Matty Brown who worked himself into the ground in his best performance to date, making some great tackles, scoring a try and grinding out the hard yards.
