Tributes paid to tragic teenager

- BY JACOB FUREDI

THIS is the first picture released of 14-year-old Maisy Lewis following her tragic death in Runcorn.

The teenager’s body was found in a wooded area of parkland in Sandymoor on the morning of Sunday, October 15.

Maisy was in year 10 at Sandymoor School – where her peers received counselling and support.

Hundreds of friends and well-wishers paid tribute to the teenager at a park in Sandymoor on Sunday night, where they let off lanterns and sang songs.

As well as sharing the image of Maisy, in her school uniform, Sandymoor School has created a book of condolence for residents to add their tributes.

They are also planning to hold an event in the coming days.

In a statement on Monday, the school said: “The school is open today as we realise that our pupils will need support and guidance during this period, while they come to terms ● with what has happened.

“Like the rest of the community, our thoughts are firstly with the family during this tragic time as well as all those who are affected.”

During the vigil on Sun- day night, friends positioned candles into the shape of an M, in tribute to Maisy.

They also came together to sing along to music, including Wiz Khalifa’s See You Again.

A woman who was walking her dogs in the park where balloons, candles, flowers and tributes had been left near a children’s play area, said: “Hundreds of kids turned up and let off lanterns, stood with candles and sang - it was touching.”

She added: “It is just so so sad. My son went to school with her and she has been round ours.

“He only spoke with her last week.”

Cheshire police say they are not treating Maisy’s death as suspicious.

A statement said: “At 9.09am on Sunday, October 15, police were called following the discovery of a body near Walsingham Drive, Runcorn.

“Officers attended the scene where they found the body of a 14-year-old girl. Next of kin have been informed and a post mortem will take place in due course.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
