Braving the shave to raise charity cash
R● IVERSIDE College and Cronton Sixth Form College joined forces to raise a whopping £3,907 for Macmillan Cancer Support with a series of fun events.
Jeannette Brady from the finance team ‘braved the shave’ to bring in £3,224 alone, completing the challenge in memory of her late husband George who died in 2014 from cancer of the oesophagus.
Colleagues, friends, family, students and special guest Widnes Vikings player Gil Dudson were at Riverside to support Jeannette as the razor removed her hair.
Jeannette said: “I would like to give a special thank you to all my friends and colleagues for supporting me so generously in my ’brave the shave’ fundraiser.
“It was overwhelming to see so many people turn out for the event and made it a truly memorable day.
“Macmillan holds a very special place in my heart and I am delighted, with everyone’s help, to have raised nearly £4,000 for such a worthy cause.”
The annual ‘Great College Bake Off’ also took place, Riverside College’s version of the popular Channel 4 baking show with students and staff competing for the title of best baker.
Competition judges Stephen Par- ● kinson, programme area leader for catering and hospitality, and Maureen Nicholls, catering tutor, were so impressed with the entries they could not decide an outright winner.
First place was shared by Carol Walker, early years and health and social care placement co-ordinator, Shania Machell, a catering student from Runcorn, for what a college spokeswoman said were their ‘equally outstanding bakes’.
A coffee morning also took place, raising £682.50 across both sites.
