AWIDNES school is celebrating after new GCSE results tables ranked it the 100th best in the country.
Ormiston Chadwick Academy (OCA) on Liverpool Road is one of the best-performing schools in the country in the Progress 8 measure.
It tracks progress by each student from age 11 to GCSE across eight subjects, including key academic subjects.
OCA’s core of 0.82 means it is rated as ‘well above average’ by the Department For Education and equates to each student achieving on average almost a whole GCSE grade better per subject than similar students nationally.
This year’s Progress 8 score was even better than OCA’s 2016 mark when it achieved 0.61.
OCA principal Tuesday Humby said: “We are delighted about the performance of our students who have demonstrated the outstanding value Ormiston Chadwick Academy adds to their education.
“The significant and well-deserved success which has been achieved is testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, staff and parents, and I would like to extend my thanks to them all.”
It follows the school – which is sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT) – achieving an ‘outstanding’ rating from education watchdog Ofsted in December 2016 and was recently ranked as the fifth highest performing in the North West.
OAT’s interim chief executive Nick Hudson said: “Ormiston Chadwick Academy is committed to raising aspirations and broadening horizons for all students, no matter what their background – and today’s excellent figures demonstrate what an excellent job Ormiston Chadwick Academy is doing for the young people they serve.
“It was already known as one of the best schools in the country – today’s results underline that.”
