Bowling Club strike back to record a memorable triumph

-

ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Mill Brow SC RTB League continued.

In Division One, the Mill Brow SC at home to the Goldmine fell behind as Sean Romped to a win in two straight legs. Jack Dunn, however, hit back taking the opening leg of his game and a deciding third to level things up.

A 14-dart opener for Alan Friar was also backed up by a third deciding leg to edge the Brow ahead, but not for long as Phil Corless & Terry Roach with an opening 16-dart leg in the first of the pairs games backed it up with a second leg to again make it all-square.

Paul Linger & Kevin Helps with a 2-1 win nudged the Brow ahead again, and the gap widened as Dave Powell & Brian Spruce added a fourth game to the Brow’s tally to leave them one short of victory.

Back in the singles, superb 17 and 14 dart games by Terry Roach had the Goldmine in with a chance of success.

However, Dave Powell opened with a 17-dart leg and quickly backed this up with a second win to seal victory for the Brow.

With the two points secured, Eric Peel edged out his opponent to add to the Mill Brow’s tally.

The Millfield at home to Widnes Bowling Club looked to be in command of this match despite falling behind in the opener as Alex McGill with two 19-dart displays won with ease.

The Millfield then established a commanding advantage as Ian Wall levelled with a 2-0 win which Brian Dutton added to with a second leg win in 11 darts to also triumph by the same score.

In the pairs, the Milly continued to dominate with Bill Fox & Jamie Donegan winning 2-0, as did Brian Dutton & Ray Dutton who finished off with a 16 dart display.

With a proverbial mountain to climb, Joe Batty & Scott Grady with a 19-darter in a two leg win, kept the Bowler in with a slim chance.

And their hopes improved as Scott Bryne opened with a 17-dart display. And despite being pegged back in the second-leg, he went on to win the decider.

Joe Batty had the Bowler right back into the match with a 2-0 win with an opening 16-dart display and with the match poised at 4-4, Alan Clark stepped up to give the Bowler a remarkable victory.

Simms Cross Institute at home to the Wellington, got off to an early lead through Peter Jerram with a 2-0 win, but the Wellington responded well.

From a leg down, Ste Whitfield with a 12-dart levelling display went on to win.

Teammate James Holden did likewise as from a leg down, he hit back to give the Wellington the lead.

In the pairs, Ste Whitfield & John Barber again came from leg down to win as the Stute seemed to be struggling to capitalise on adding to first leg leads.

Glynn Owen & Tony Green, however, stopped the landslide as they won in straight legs.

However, a 15-dart first leg win by Karl Whitfield & Anthony Hall was quickly added to, putting the Wellington on the verge of winning the match.

Needing three in a row, the Stute stepped up to the challenge as Ged McPartland with an 11-dart second leg pulled a game back and Glynn Owen followed this with an 11-dart opening leg of his own and soon had the second leg to put the match all resting on the final game.

But it was not to be for the Stute as Karl Whitfield took the final game in two straight legs to win the match for the Wellington.

Widnes Cricket Club at home to Halton Stadium conceded the first four games to the Stadium’s Alan Magee (nine darts), Kenny Murphy (19 and 13 dart legs), Colin Rigby and opening pair, Alan Magee & Joe Kelly.

The Cricket Club recovered a point via Rob Morris & B Hewitt (11 and 17 dart legs). This was as good as it got for them as the Stadium rallied again and took the next four games and the match via T Jackson & Colin Rigby (19 darts), Joe Kelly (11 darts), Eddie Dootson (19 and 11 dart legs) and Kevin Garcia (19 and 14 darts).
