Third spot is secured by Halton

HALTON were in action at Everton Park Leisure Centre in round two of the M&D Gala.

In the first round of the Merseyside & District Division One, Halton made an impressive start finishing in first place and they were looking to repeat this feat as they faced Everton, Garston, Liverpool Penguins and Prescot swimming clubs once again.

Halton got off to a good start with a number of first place finishes in the opening few relay events and were looking good to maintain top spot with a number of good individual wins.

However, as the meet progressed, Garston and Prescot managed to overtake Halton and they maintained their lead right to the end.

There was still time for some more impressive swims from Halton as the relay teams won four of the final 10 relays, also finishing in the runnersup spot twice and coming third in the girls’ 11-and-under freestyle relay.

Halton finished the gala with a great win in the boys’ freestyle cannon event.

Halton go into round three with a lead of 14 points over Everton with Prescot sitting in third place a further 20 points behind.

There were a number of good performanc­es with the team finishing with 15 first place finishes and 10 runnersup spots.

The relay teams touched home first in seven events.

The standout individual performanc­es went to Sophie Buckley, Ben Clayton, Beth Howard-Hughes, Sam Hyland, Elliot Griffiths Moore, Josh HowardHugh­es and Daniel Buckley who amassed a total of eight first place finishes between them.

Sam Clayton, Will Woodward, Joel Sumner, Leah Galligan, Claudio Mecklenber­gh, Emmie Brownlow, Lucy Harris and Libby Harrison all helped to keep the score healthy with good relay and individual performanc­es.
