Halton quintet are in stylish form at Autumn Meet in North Wales

FIVE members of Halton Swimming Club travelled to Wales to compete at the annual Swim Conwy Autumn Meet held in Llandudno.

Brothers Ben and Sam Clayton, Jess Connolly and brother and sister Josh and Beth Howard-Hughes were all looking to get off to a good start in the 2017-18 swimming season and in turn obtain some qualifying times for the Cheshire and Regional Championsh­ips to be held next year.

Ten-year-old Beth HowardHugh­es was first to strike gold with a great swim in the 200m butterfly in a new personal best of 3:02.48, some five seconds quicker than her previous best time.

Beth also struck gold in the 200m individual medley with another PB clocking 2:53.72 and won a silver medal in the 200m backstroke.

She also finished just outside the medals in the 50m freestyle.

Eleven-year-old Ben Clayton was next on the gold trail touching the wall first in the 100m butterfly in a new PB of 1:16.46.

His 15-year-old brother, Sam, claimed gold in the 15 and over 100m breaststro­ke in a new PB of 1:16.12. Ben also claimed bronze medals in the 100m breaststro­ke and 100m backstroke, both in new personal best times.

Thirteen-year-old Josh Howard-Hughes won a silver medal in the 400m freestyle and bronze medals in the 100m backstroke and 100m butterfly.

Josh finished the meet with four new personal best times out of five events.

His most impressive swim came in the breaststro­ke event where he knocked a further three seconds off his previous best mark.

Thirteen year old Jess Connolly produced a fine swim in the 100m freestyle in a new PB of 1:11.64.

She also trimmed more than ● a second off her 100m breaststro­ke time coming home in 1:34.07. Jess finished narrowly outside the medals in the 200m breaststro­ke and 400m freestyle.
