HE skies over Widnes and Runcorn will be set alight by an explosion of colour this weekend with thousands of expected to brave the cold to enjoy Halton’s annual fireworks spectacular.

The borough will be brought together on Sunday, November 5, with the display boasting a movies theme in its 21st year.

There will be music from 6pm from both viewing areas to warm up the crowd as the anticipation for the big show builds.

Then at 7.30pm Halton once again becomes the North West’s place to be on Guy Fawkes Night.

Classic hits will accompany the show.

Halton Borough Council’s executive board member for events, Cllr Eddie Jones, said: “Halton Borough Council’s annual firework display is a great opportunity for the entire borough to come together.

“It will be great to see so many people from our two towns and beyond coming out to enjoy this great family event.

“As well as providing a safe organised environment for people to enjoy the evening.”

At The Brindley in Runcorn, some of the stars of this year’s festive pantomime Sleeping Beauty will be joining the celebrations.

A council spokesman said: “We promise Beauty, Rebecca Lake, will be awake to meet the public as the building opens its doors for a free night of entertainment and excellent view of the fireworks.”
