VIKINGS IN THE COMMUNITY Faye gives girls help before the World Cup
AWIDNES-BORN rugby league star visited the Vikings’ Girls Satellite Club and Walking Rugby sessions to share her skills and experience with participants.
Faye Gaskin has recently been selected in England’s World Cup squad that will head down under, but generously took time out of her busy schedule to support the Friday night events.
Faye and the rest of the women’s team fly out soon where they will face Papua New Guinea, Australia and The Cook Islands in a tough group.
After taking part in the sessions, she said: “I think that these programmes are really good.
“It’s nice to be invited by the club to come down and get involved with the Girls Club and Walking Rugby.
“It’s really promising to see the girls playing rugby league and it’s building for the future, so I’ve really enjoyed my evening.”
Faye is excited to be taking part in the international tournament and cannot wait for it to get underway.
She said: “It’s three weeks until we fly out, so I’m really looking forward to it. “The training schedule for us has really stepped up a notch now.
“The tournament is promising for the women’s game and I’m excited for it.”
Faye’s appearance follows the announcement that the Vikings will be entering a team into the 2018 Women’s Super League. ●
She said it is brilliant news for the women’s game and can only help to develop the sport even further.
Faye added: “Being from Widnes myself, and hearing the news that Widnes are putting a team together, it’s really exciting for the future.
“I hope these girls that are coming through the system now can keep ● working and hopefully one day sign for Widnes.” ● The Vikings Girls Club takes place every Friday from 4.30pm to 5.30pm and costs £2. ● Walking Rugby also takes place every Friday at the same times and is free.
