DETECTIVES are investigating after a gang of youths attacked a man in Runcorn.

A Cheshire police spokeswoman said the victim was walking along Mooring Close in Murdishaw between 7.15pm and 7,25pm on Tuesday, October 31, near the boxing club when he saw a group of eight young people near some woods, one of whom was on a bike.

They approached the man, who was 21 years old, and shouted insults.

One youth, wearing an high-vis jacket and trousers, pulled the victim from behind to the ground and several others assaulted him.

The group then walked off towards Gorsewood Road.

Cheshire police said the victim was treated for minor injuries at Warrington General Hospital.

Detective Constable Suzanne Parker, of Runcorn CID, said: “This was a very nasty unprovoked attack and could have easily have led to more serious injuries. It also left the victim badly shaken. If you know who the offenders are please come forward and speak to an officer.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information should call Cheshire police on 101 quoting incident 851 of October 31. Information can also be passed on anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
