Call to vote for football club
WESTON Point Junior Football Club ( JFC) has launched a bid to buy defibrillators and has called on readers to help the effort by voting in the Aviva Community Fund competition.
A spokesman for Weston Point JFC said it is keen to equip its 12 teams for ages seven to under17s with potentially life- saving devices. According to the First Aid For Life group, 12 under-35s die each week in the UK from sudden cardiac arrest.
Of the 30,000 heart attacks that are not in hospitals, 80% happen at home and 20% are in public places where risk of death is greatest.
The first aid group said every minute without car- diopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation reduces a victim’s survival rate by 7-10%.Weston Point JFC is hoping to raise between £1,000 and £5,000 from the Aviva fund.
