Police close probe into horrific attack at Creamfields

DETECTIVES probing an incident that left a Creamfields reveller with horrific facial injuries have closed their inquiry.

Police investigating the attack say no witnesses have come forward and the victim has no memory of how he came to suffer shocking wounds, which included the loss of part of his cheek.

Cheshire police have confirmed they would consider re-opening the investigation if any new information came to light.

Officers launched enquiries after an appeal to find out what happened to Jimmy Leggett was posted on social media and went viral.

It was thought he had been the victim of an assault near a taxi rank at the festival, between 3pm and 5pm on August 27.

Speaking about his shocking injuries, Mr Leggett later told ITV he feared the incident may cost him his sight in his left eye.

The 21-year-old, from Essex, said: “I’ve had 10 stitches underneath the cheek itself, I got stitches all across my eyelid because my eyelid was in half. And obviously up my eye and around my eyebrow.

“Also, I suffered a broken nose, a broken cheekbone and a fractured eye socket.”

The appeal designed to help Jimmy, originally posted on Facebook, urged: “This happened on Sunday night at CREAMFIELDS and I’m trying to help the poor lad find more witnesses than he has!

“It happened near the taxi rank between 3pm and 5pm any information would be greatly appreciated and your name will be kept COMPLETELY CONFIDENTIAL!!!

“His injuries are horrific his face is smashed to bits with broken bones and fractures and once the swelling has gone down he may need further surgery.”

Police were informed of Mr Leggett’s injuries at 5.15pm on the Sunday of the incident, after he visited the hospital set up on the site of the festival, near Runcorn.

He was then taken to Aintree hospital for treatment.

Detective Sergeant Lianne Macfarlane said: “Officers have worked extremely hard to try to establish how the victim sustained his injuries.

“No-one has come forward to say they witnessed the incident, and the victim has no recollection of what happened to cause the injuries.

“We have made contact with those who provided relevant information via the social media post, but unfortunately we have not been able to find anyone who witnessed the actual incident take place.

“CCTV has not brought about any further lines of enquiry either.

“This was a serious incident where a man was left with significant facial injuries, but I want to reassure the public that we have spent a long time investigating this incident and have exhausted all lines of enquir y . As such, the only option now is to close the investigation.

“But if new information becomes available we will re-open it. If there is anyone who witnessed the incident occuring, please come forward and report it to us quoting incident number 745 of August 27, 2017.
