Welcome for £160k playing field improvements

COUNCILLORS in Widnes have welcomed long sought-after environmental improvements and more secure access to playing fields in the area.

Changes have been announced by Halton Borough Council to Prescot Road Playing Fields in Hough Green at a cost of approximately £160,000.

A range of improvements include installing knee rails along the perimeter of the site along Hough Green Road to prevent vehicles trespassing, a resurfaced and enlarged car park and three trees in a poor condition are to be replaced by 18 new ones.

New concrete paving, along with new grassed areas will also be placed adjacent to the changing rooms.

Improvements to the exterior of the changing rooms will be undertaken to address graffiti and weather-related damage.

Cllr Phil Harris who acted as project lead, said: “The improvements will give this valued greenspace a major uplift in appearance, improved facilities and prevent vehicle trespass by travellers or others.”

Cllr Harris added: “It has taken a number of years to get to this point and we remain committed as ward councillors to protecting and enhancing this area, alongside other improvements being sought elsewhere in the ward.”

Works are due to begin on site in the week commencing Monday, November 20, and the aim is to complete it before Christmas, depending on the weather.
