Shopping City launches artists’ exhibition space
●
AN ARTS space has been launched at Runcorn Shopping City where residents with visual flair can display their work.
The City Arts Hub (CAH) showcases paintings, collages and sculptures and also has room for creative workshops and a programme of events is also available.
Elaine Kochan, of CAH, said the space’s ethos is ‘using art as a way to keep our minds healthy’.
The hub has disabled access and welcomes all ages and abilities.
The opening event was attended by artists and representatives from Wellbeing Enterprises, Mind, Halton’s health improvement team, Liverpool Housing Trust, Well North, The Sewing Rooms, and other agencies, as well as ● Shopping City shopping city management.
Sara Gillies, project manager, gave a speech at the launch having set up the scheme, and stressed that the space can be used to celebrate diversity.
It is also hoped that the workshops will help to ease the symptoms of depression and anxiety.
This idea was backed by Dave Sweeney, NHS Halton Clinical Commissioning Group chief officer.
Representatives of Victoria Music Limited provided details on the ‘wellbeing in the community’ workshops that are available free in Runcorn and Widnes.
The final speech was by Lesley Sherrard, resident poet and artist who uses the space and talked about how the space had boosted her confidence and sense ● of purpose.
Music was provided by the Palacefields Ukulele Group who had the audience singing along.
The space is open to the public for viewings every Thursday and Saturday between noon and 3pm.
Workshops and other creative activities are on Fridays but advanced booking is required.
Every Monday the space is used by the City Arts Group for amateur artists to meet each week to create art and chat with likeminds. ● For more information, email cityartshub@gmail. com or email 07901 750 928.
