Bell pitch perfect for Goldmine

ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the quarterfin­als of the Lt Wilkinson Cup took place.

At Widnes Cricket Club, Hough Green SC took on the Mersey Hotel. Ste Woodward and JWA Cotty took the first two games for the Mersey. Hough Green then levelled with two of their own from Andy McIntosh and opening pair Andy McIntosh & Barry Sefton (18 darts).

The Mersey replied, recording two wins from Paul Cotty & Dave Cotty and S Woodward & JWA Cotty (17 darts) giving them a good lead.

However, Hough Green were hot on their tails as wins from Barry Sefton and Paul Woods levelled matters at 4-4.

Russ Hardman then took the final game and the match for Hough Green SC.

At the Goldmine, the Goldmine entertaine­d the Millfield.

The Millfield took an early lead with two in a row from Ian Wall (18 darts) and Alan Sutton (18 darts).

The Goldmine recovered a point via Terry Roach, only to see the Millfield’s opening pair, Alan Sutton & Chris Taylor, widen the gap for the Millfield.

The Goldmine fought back, taking the next three games through Gary Johnson & R O’Connor, Sean Bell & Liam Jackson and R O’Connor edging them closer to the winning line.

However, the Millfield were equally determined as Brian Dutton claimed the penultimat­e game making it 4-4.

Sean Bell then claimed the final game securing the thrilling match for the Goldmine.

At the Corpy Club, the Corpy took on the Cricketers Arms.

It was to be a brilliant night for the Corpy as they took the first six contests via Ian Argent, Dave Pickles and Dave Cowan in the singles, followed by pairs, Dave Pickles and Ian Argent, Alan Moran & Alan Pennington and Mike Ruane & Dave Cowan.

The Cricketers Arms recovered a point through Brian Mercer, only to see the Corpy Club take the remaining two games wrapping up a comprehens­ive 8-1 triumph as Mike Ruane and Alan Moran were both successful on the oche.
