Powell the hero in an epic clash

-

ON Friday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, matches in the Wilson Cup took place.

At Simms Cross Institute, the Stute played host to Widnes Cricket Club.

K Baxter took the first game for the Cricket Club.

The Stute then levelled via Dave Batty, before going ahead through Ged McPartland.

Parity was restored through the Cricket Club’s opening pair, M Parr & P Glover.

A further two wins from Danny Mellor & Adam Mellor and D Morris & K Baxter gave the Cricket lads a healthy lead.

However, the Stute were equally determined as two in a row from Andy Abbott and Glyn Owen levelled matters at 4-4.

The outcome was resolved as Adam Mellor secured the final game and the match for Widnes Cricket Club.

At the Wellington, the Wellington hosted Mill Brow SC and won the first game through John Barber.

Jack Dunn then levelled for the Brow with a 17 dart display. Ste Whitfield took the Wellington ahead with superb 13-darter, only to see the Brow level via their opening pair, Ray Linger & Paul Linger, then go ahead through Neil Platt & Jack Dunn.

The Wellington responded with a win from Ste Whitfield & James Holden to level the score before going ahead with a further win from Karl Whitfield.

The Brow’s Paul Linger restored parity in the penultimate game making it 4-4 whilst Dave Powell (16 darts) gave the Mill Brow SC the final game and the match.

At Widnes Bowling Club, the Bowler entertained Halton Stadium.

Alan Magee stepped up first and secured the Stadium the first game. This was then levelled by the Bowler’s S Byrne.

That was as good as it got for the Bowler, however, as the Stadium surged ahead taking the remaining seven games and the match with victories from Joe Price, Eddie Dootson & Kevin Garcia, Kenny Murphy & Joe Price (15 darts), John Bowles & Alan Magee (17 darts), Colin Rigby, Barry Stanners and T Jackson (17 darts).
