Friar in sizzling form when it matters to win the match for Mill Brow

ON Monday night in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Widnes Bowling Club 501 League continued.

The Millfield at home to the Mill Brow SC took the first game through Ray Dutton. Jack Dunn then levelled for the Brow.

The Millfield took the lead again via Alan Sutton. Once more, the Brow levelled, this time through their opening pair, Jack Dunn & Brian Spruce. Both teams were equally determined as a further two wins apiece from the Millfield’s Chris Taylor & Brian Dutton and Brian Dutton (18 dart third leg) and the Brow’s Dave Powell & Alan Friar (17 dart second leg) and Dave Powell (180).

With the scoreline knotted at 4-4, Alan Friar took the final game and the match for the Mill Brow SC.

Simms Cross Institute at home to the Hammer & Pincers took the first game through Tony Green.

The Hammer then levelled via Dave Bolam. That was as good as it got for the Hammer, however, as Simms Cross Institute took the remaining seven games and the match through Paul Batty (112 finish), Tony Green & Andy Abbott, Glynn Owen & Paul Batty, Mick Cullen & Keith Glover, then back in the singles, Keith Glover, Glynn Owen and Mick Cullen.

The Wellington at home to Halton Stadium conceded the first game to the Stadium’s Alan Magee.

Anthony Hall (148 finish) then levelled for the Wellington whilst a further win from Rob Gatcliffe took the Wellington (13 dart third leg and 180) into the lead.

Parity was restored as the Stadium’s Joe Kelly & Alan Magee (19 dart first leg) levelled the score.

A win from John Bowles & Kevin Garcia (17 dart second leg and 180) gave the Stadium the lead.

Karl Whitfield took the penultimat­e game for the Wellington, making it 4-4.

John Bowles (15 and 18 darts) took the final game and the match for Halton Stadium.

Widnes Bowling Club at home the Goldmine had a bad night as they conceded the first four games to the Goldmine’s Karl Windisch, M Callaghan (15 darts and 120 checkout), Terry Roach and opening pair, Chris Hough & Gary Johnson (180).

The Bowler recovered a point through Scott Grady & Joe Batty (two 18-dart legs).

The Goldmine, though, continued their rout, winning the next two contests through Terry Roach & Phil Corless and J Slater. The Bowler added a further victory through Scott Grady, only to see S Littler secure the final game adding to the Goldmine’s already winning tally. ● Reports from the Wilson Cup are on page 53 and the Lt Wilkinson Cup on page 51.
