£50k cash boost for Catalyst
A MUSEUM in Widnes has received almost £50,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for a digital interpretation project focusing on the area’s history.
The Catalyst Science Discovery Centre on Mersey Road has created Panoramic Halton.
Tablets can be borrowed for a deposit from the Catalyst’s reception and used in the four floor Observatory gallery to discover more about the heritage of the area which can be seen from the windows.
They contain a wealth of information, video clips, archive photographs and a quiz that can be completed as participants investigate.
The project has been made a reality thanks to £47,400 from the HLF.
A Catalyst spokeswoman said: “Visitors can explore the three interactive galleries, borrow a Panoramic Halton tablet from reception, view the art exhibition Crossings from local artist Shaun Smyth and enjoy a tasty snack and drink from our cafe with excellent views over the River Mersey and the new Mersey Gateway Bridge.”
Thanks to National Lottery players, the West Bank museum has also just received £60,165 from the HLF for a project called Catalyst; Past, Present, Future which will begin in a few weeks time.
HLF chief executive Ros Kerslake said: “December is a wonderful time to experience the UK’s rich, diverse and exciting heritage which has been transformed by more than £7bn National Lottery funding since 1994.”
Adults who bought a National Lottery ticket or scratchcard on Tuesday, December 12, and Wednesday, December 13, were allowed to enter Catalyst for free on both those days between 10am and 3pm. ●
