We’ve spider few terrific titles coming your way in 2018

-

IT’S a brand new year, and that can only mean one thing – brand new games. Last year saw a wealth of amazing releases hit our consoles, and you’ll be glad to hear that 2018 promises even more.

The long-awaited Spider-Man game is finally on the horizon, as is a sequel to The Last of Us and a new God of War.

But they are just the tip of the iceberg, here are some more titles that have us shivering with anticipation.

RED DEAD REDEMPTION 2 PS4, Xbox One Release: June 8 (rumored) THEY’VE taken their sweet time, but Rockstar is finally ready to unveil another Red Dead Redemption. This will be a prequel to the 2010 game and feature outlaw Arthur Morgan, and the Van der Linde gang.

Rockstar is playing its cards very close to its chest with this game, even its reported release date only came from an overly eager stockist, who was quick to pull the detail from its site.

Fans who can’t wait till the spring though, can prep themselves for the game by unlocking a gun in Grand Theft Auto Online.

Players receive an in-game email pointing them toward clues in a set of randomly chosen locations, follow the clues and you unlock the Double-Action Revolver – a fancy golden gun which will transfer into RDR2 upon its release.

SPIDER-MAN PS4 Release: Winter/spring DEVELOPED by Insomniac Games, there are a lot of reasons to be excited about Peter Parker’s latest outing.

The first is that the PS4 Pro is desperately in need of some new titles, and to say trailers for it look stunning is an understatement.

The second is the gameplay – the developers have clearly taken some inspiration from Rocksteady’s Arkham series, as we see Spidey silently webbing up bad guys as he stalks them silently from the rooftops, and swinging seamlessly through the streets of New York.

As for that setting, we’re assured you’ll be free to roam the streets in a gorgeously realised open world map.

GOD OF WAR PS4 Release: Early 2018 KRATOS unleashes his inner hipster for this new outing, which sees our hero learning to temper his rage as he raises his son to become a hardened warrior.

The God of War series is legendary for its brutality, so it may come as quite a shock to learn this is a very different beast.

Rebuilt from the ground up, this will be a single-player only campaign. Gone are the Ghost of Sparta’s double-chained blades, instead he wields a lightning axe, as he trains son Atreus.

There will be heavy elements of RPG, such as having to earn archery knowledge points, and the need to hunt for items to craft resources.

There are still dozens of mythical beasts to slay, and you will still get to unleash the Spartan rage – just maybe not as often as you’re used to.

CRACKDOWN 3 Xbox One, PC Release: Spring 2018 FINGERS crossed Crackdown 3 will finally get an airing this year as it’s already been delayed since 2016. The first two Crackdowns were insanely good fun, and this ‘threequel’ sounds no different. As a super-cop in an open-world city, you fight crime and smash up the environment in the process – delightful, mindless fun. And you don’t have to share that fun alone, as the game supports online co-op for up to four players. The icing on the cake though is the addition of Terry Crews as a playable character.

THE LAST OF US: PART II PS4 Release: ETA 2018 THE Last of Us was, I think it’s fair to say, one of the most affecting games I’ve ever played. And after watching the jaw-dropping teaser trailer, I’m expecting this highly anticipated sequel to be the same.

Set five years after the events of the first game, Part II introduces four new characters – Yara, Lev, Emily and an unnamed female character.

The game’s director Neil Druckmann confirmed a “large part” of the game takes place in Seattle, but offered no hint as to where the rest of the action will be staged.

Already drawing criticism for the brutal violence displayed in the teaser, Part II looks set to be as uncompromising and emotional as its predecessor. There’s no concrete release date as of yet, but it’s hopefully out towards the end of the year.
