Help to support homeless charity
● VOLUNTEERS are being sought in Runcorn at accommodation which supports the homeless to resettle.
Social inclusion charity P3 has made the plea regarding Grangeway Court, which has 10 self-contained flats offering temporary accommodation for vulnerable families.
Support staff at Grangeway help families to find long-term, sustainable accommodation and help them to address the reasons why they may have become homeless, such as debt issues, mental ill health or addiction.
The service needs volunteers to help upkeep their outdoor play area and garden, which has a vegetable patch to encourage residents to grow their own food and eat healthily.
Administration volunteers are also needed and there may be opportunities for candidates to sit in on support sessions to gain experience in this field.
Service co-ordinator Andy Pope said: “It’s the experience that volunteers can bring that really adds value; people come from many different backgrounds, and good volunteers can benefit everyone – the staff, the clients and hopefully they can also benefit from it themselves.
“When we’ve had volunteers helping with the garden in the past, it’s been fantastic, and really nice to get the whole community involved.
“The residents really respect the work that’s been done by volunteers.”
