Machete used in park fight

-

● POLICE have seized a machete after it was used to injure someone during a fight involving two men and a group of youths in Runcorn.

Cheshire police said officers were called to Town Hall Park after reports of a ‘disturbance’ at 3.50am on Saturday, January 28.

A force spokesman said there had been an ‘altercation’ during which someone was attacked with the machete.

Runcorn police tweeted an image of the seized weapon in a sheath and evidence bag, alongside a ballpoint pen for scale, showing that the blade was about three times its length indicating it was about 12-15 inches long.

The incident is reported to have also involved a knife. The spokesman said two males, aged 16 and 20, in the group of young people suffered ‘minor injuries’ during the incident.

Initially police had reported on social media that the incident happened on the Town Park but the spokesman has now confirmed it was at Town Hall Park on Boston Avenue.

The spokesman said: “A machete has been recovered and police have spoken to a number of those involved to establish the exact circumstances of the incident. No-one has been arrested at this stage.”

Runcorn police have urged residents to help to tackle knife and related weapons crime in the town.

Posting a picture of the machete on Twitter, the unit said: “One of the weapons involved in yesterday’s incident. This was recovered as part of the ongoing investigation.

“Work with us to take more weapons like this off our streets. Report people carrying weapons on 101 or via Crimestoppers. #nomoreknives #stopknifecrime”
