Police arrest trio in armed attack probe
THREE suspects have been arrested in connection with an alleged assault with a machete in Runcorn.
A Cheshire police spokesman said the males, aged 17, 28 and 20, have been released pending further enquiries.
The assault is reported to have taken place as the victim exited a subway under the busway in Murdishaw at 7.51pm on January 14.
Cheshire Constabulary said officers were called to Dover Close following reports of a man being attacked.
Initially it was alleged that the 42-year-old was assaulted by up to five men.
He was taken to hospital to be treated, while officers made a search of the area for the suspects.
Police described the assault as ‘serious’.
The three men released pending investigation were among five suspects arrested for a range of drug and public order offences.
Four of the men, those aged 17, 28, 42 and 23, were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis.
The fifth, aged, 20 was arrested for an alleged public order offence.
Cheshire police said that although there is no indication to suggest the alleged assault was linked to an alleged knifepoint carjacking reported to have taken place on Meadow Row in Castlefields on Monday, January 15, that will form a line of inquiry in the investigation.
A constabulary spokeswoman said that probe is ongoing with no arrests at present.
