Bicycle experts step in to serve

-

EX-ARMED Forces and young people have carried out maintenance on 70 bikes for residents in Runcorn as part of a police bicycle marking event.

Runcorn Veterans Association (RVA) joined held the session alongside a bike marking initiative being run by police community support officers (PCSO) outside the cafe at Runcorn Hill Park.

Billy Jones, RVA chairman, said the maintenance involved adjusting chains, seats, handle bars, and even turning over 30 front wheels that had been fitted the wrong way.

In addition the team pumped up tyres and serviced as many bikes as they could in four hours.

The Build Earn And Rise (BEAR) bike project is based next to the Red Admiral pub on Boston Avenue.

Billy thanked the PCSOs for letting the BEAR team do its event alongside a police bike marking initiative taking place on the day.

He said: “With recently trained bike maintenance guys that had been trained by various BikeRight! instructors it was great to see the enthusiasm the veterans trained staff had.

“A great thanks to Wayne, Eddie, Keith and Billy from Runcorn Veterans and a special thanks to qualified trainees from the July and August intake of the Runcorn bike project in 2017.

“BEAR will be starting its next training for children aged 10-15 in February with further courses in April 2018.” ●
