Linnets boss in mission for cousin
RUNCORN Linnets FC’s kit manager has launched a campaign to raise £1,000 for a charity that helps parents to cope with the death of a child.
A club spokesman said Jon Urquhart has already surged to almost a quarter of the way to his target within the first few days of his fundraising quest.
This is likely to be bolstered further when Jon later this year takes part in a sprint distance triathlon in memory of a close relative’s son, and has set up a JustGiving page to support the charity 4Louis, which donates memory boxes for hospitals to give to families in cases of still birth, neo-natal, infant and child loss.
Jon’s young cousin was posthumously named as the match ball sponsor for the Linnets’ recent first-team home game against Charnock Richard with his family taking on the sponsorship in his honour.
Jon said: “On January 1, my amazing cousin Simon and his lovely wife Laura were devastated when their beautiful baby boy Jarvis was born sleeping.
“This is how I have come to find out about 4Louis and the amazing and wonderful work they do, to help out families who find themselves in this awful position.”
Jon added: “I am now ready, mentally if not yet physically, to compete in a sprint distance triathlon in September.”
