Teamwork teaches pupils life skills
A PARTNERSHIP has been announced between Widnes Vikings and St Michael’s Catholic Primary School.
Pupils will enjoy new opportunities to learn and develop life skills in unique programmes, which are supported by the Vikings award-winning community team and first team stars.
Students at St Michael’s already enjoy taking part in both the Sky Try programme, which helps introduces children to rugby league.
They also take part in Game Changer, a pioneering programme that promotes healthy living and physical fitness to youngsters.
As part of this new School Sport Partnership, Widnes Vikings will be backing St Michael’s Why We Read initiative.
This has involved the school developing a creative curriculum that encourages their children to make reading a lifelong habit.
The Vikings first team players, as role models to the children, will be sharing the benefits of reading and some of their favourite books as children.
Vikings Sports Foundation head of education Liam Clark said: “It’s fantastic to have St Michael’s Catholic Primary School as a new School Sport Partner.
“By working together, Widnes Vikings and ● St Michael’s are able to creatively promote physical health, literacy and life skills to the children.
“This new partnership helps to take that success even further.
“We have had some fantastic experience in our four year partnership with St Michael’s.
“The Vikings are excited to have this opportunity to further develop our relationship with Mr Loughran, the staff and children, and we would like to thank them for their support.”
The partnership involves schools utilise part of their sports premium funding to gain quality coaching and provide special experiences for students throughout every week of the academic year.
St Michael’s headteacher Paul Loughran said: “We are delighted to be furthering our partnership with Widnes Vikings as part of our continued commitment to our children’s health and wellbeing.
“As a school, we strive to offer a broad, varied and challenging curriculum alongside a wide variety of extra-curricular activities enabling all of our pupils to receive an excellent school experience.
“Our children and staff are excited to be working with the Vikings on this innovative partnership and we look forward seeing both our children develop their life skills whilst working with this professional organisation.
“In addition, we are all looking forward to seeing the Widnes Vikings having a successful Super League season.”
