Gardening tips for elderly

-

● A WIDNES garden centre has continued its focus on giving back by hosting a free ‘spring prep’ talk for members of a charity which supports older people in Warrington.

The interactive session took place at the LifeTime centre on Sankey Street and was hosted by Angie Fletcher, planteria manager at Notcutts Rivendell.

The talk covered a range of topics including what to plant in the coming year, colour schemes, combination planting, general pruning and indoor plants.

LifeTime is funded by Warrington Housing Association (WHA) and is free to join for every Warrington resident over the age of 50.

The charity runs a wide programme of social activities, classes and trips to encourage members to meet new people and keep active.

Notcutts Rivendell centre manager David Quigley said: “We’re passionate about supporting our local community and we were delighted to visit LifeTime to share some expert gardening tips with its members.

“It’s great to encourage older people to enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of gardening, and to help beat loneliness in the community.”

LifeTime officer Andrea Rees said: “There are over 40,000 older people in Warrington and at LifeTime we aim to offer a wide range of activities and information sessions to promote social inclusion. We’d like to say a big thank you to Notcutts Rivendell for their support – the gardening talk was a great success and we received really positive feedback from our members.”
