Marking youth achievements
MORE than 270 young people from across Widnes and Runcorn collected their Duke Of Edinburgh ( DOE) and mayor’s awards at a celebration evening at The Brindley.
The event included performances by Saints Peter And Paul College samba band, singing performances by Charlotte Codack from Sandymoor School and Kayleigh Mutch, The Grange School and Riverside College dance group.
A Halton Council spokesman said the bash was organised by young people and DOE and mayor’s award participants past and present.
He said recipients from following schools ● ● and organisations attended the ceremony to collect their certificates: Ashley School, Halton Access To Sport, Halton Open Award Scheme, St Chad’s, The Grange, Ormiston Chadwick Academy, Saints Peter And Paul Catholic College, Sandymoor School, Hope Corner Academy, The Hub, Grangeway, Beechwood Community Centre, Murdishaw Community Centre and Upton Com- munity Centre.
The spokesman said the DOE and Halton mayor’s award programmes are organised by Young Addaction on behalf of Halton’s Children’s Trust and Halton Borough Council.
Guest of honour was Halton mayor Alan Lowe who was on hand to present the awards.
He said: “The occasion was a fabulous showcase of the talents and achievements of the young people from our borough and serves as an inspiration to others that if you put your mind to something you can achieve it.”
Cllr Tom McInerney (children, young people and families) also attended.
He said: “What a fantastic evening celebrating all the wonderful achievements of our young people from Halton.
“Young people get a lot of well deserved media coverage because of their involvement in schemes like this. It shows both adults and their peers what can be accomplished.”
