CHILDREN in care are being invited to make Valentine’s gifts for their foster carers and raise awareness about fostering in Halton.

Looked after children in the borough will lend a hand to the fostering team this February helping them to raise awareness about the difference foster carers can make to young people’s lives.

As part of a Valentine’s themed recruitment campaign, children from Halton Children In Care Council will come together for a crafting session where they will make small gifts for foster families.

They will thank their foster carers for being so passionate about fostering in Runcorn and Widnes. The fostering team will share special clips, pictures and gift presentations across social media pages.

Sessions like this are just one example of the many types of support and benefits Halton Borough Council offer to foster carers.

New foster carers are guaranteed a comprehensive training and support package as part of the fostering process and will be allocated their own social worker along with weekly allowances and payments.

Halton Borough Council’s executive board member for children and young people, Cllr Tom McInerney, said: “In Halton, we are in need of more people who will make great foster carers.

“We’re pleased to involve our young people to show what a difference foster care can make and encourage people to apply”

The Halton Children In Care Council is a group of young people who represent the views and wishes of all children in care and care leavers.

They meet regularly and contribute to the way the service operates.
