Owen and Bowles hold their nerve to win classics for their teams

ON Friday night in the Widnes & District Darts League, the Mill Brow SC RTB League continued.

In Division One, Simms Cross Institute at home to the Mill Brow SC took the first game via Ged McPartland. Jack Dunn then levelled the Brow before they took the lead via Ray Linger (16 darts). The Stute came back to level through their opening pair, Ged McPartland & Glyn Owen. They then took the next game as Andy Abbott & Brian Abbott triumphed. Parity was restored with a win from the Brow’s Carl Hackney & Ray Linger. The Stute took the lead through Andy Abbott, but the Brow levelled again via Chris Bright making it 4-4.

The outcome was resolved as Glyn Owen took the final game and the match for Simms Cross Institute.

The Wellington at home to Halton Stadium won the first game through Ste Whitfield (11 darts). T Jackson (18 darts) then levelled for the Stadium. Anthony Hall (15 darts) took the next game for the Wellington, and again the Stadium levelled, this time through their opening pair, J Kelly & T Jackson (19 darts.

This match was being played extremely close as a further win apiece from the Wellington’s Ste Whitfield & Karl Whitfield (17 darts) and the Stadium’s John Bowles & Alan Magee made it 3-3.

A further win from Joe Kelly in the singles took the Stadium ahead, but again not for long as the Wellington claimed the penultimat­e game through Karl Whitfield (13 darts) to level the score again. Both teams had been equally determined, but the outcome was resolved as John Bowles (12 darts) took the final game and the match for Halton Stadium.

Widnes Bowling Club at home to the Goldmine won the first game through Tommy Robertson. James Holden then levelled for the Goldmine. The Bowler took the lead again with two in a row from Alan Clark and opening pair, Alan Clark & Tommy Robertson. The Goldmine recovered a point via Barry Noonan & Phil Corless, only to see the Bowler’s Scott Grady & Scott Byrne add to their tally.

The Goldmine were still in with a chance as Phil Corless (18 darts) took the next game. However, their hopes were dashed as two in a row from Alex McGill (14 and 18 darts) and Dave Gerrard ensured Widnes Bowling Club’s victory.

Widnes Cricket Club at home to the Millfield conceded the first game to the visitors’ Ian Wall. Adam Mellor (18 darts) then levelled for the Cricket Club. A further win from Rob Morris (14 darts) took them ahead. The Millfield hit back to level through their opening pair, Billy Fox & Ian Wall and then proceeded to take the remaining five games and the match as Chris Hall & Keith Horabin, Jamie Donegan & Ronnie Greylish, Chris Hall (15 darts), Ronnie Greylish and Keith Horabin all won.
