Bring democracy back to borough

- Tommy Glynn BEM Widnes

IT has been a long time since I entered into the foray of the council and its performances. In last week’s Weekly News the there was an article regarding the reduction of opening times of Halton Borough Council’s two rubbish tips in the borough.

The hours of the tip barely coincide with people’s working schedules now so whatever are the council thinking about the fly tippers who will have a field day?

The franchisees on the tips, (the men sorting out the metal and such) must make a living out of our waste.

Some of these items, cuddly toys and small items have been known to end up on the flea market at times.

Maybe we should bring this lucrative service ‘back in house’?

As for the £20,000 savings, the reduction of three councillors to two per ward would more than save treble this amount. (Three would cover it)

Regarding Halton Hospital being knocked down?

In the late 1990s when Frank Fraser and I were on the then called HCHC (Halton Community Health Care) when the talk was then about merging the Warrington and Halton Hospital into one, we then said it would not work and after all these years it hasn’t?

The idea of moving the police station from Kingsway to the Vikings Stadium at about £120,000 waste of it only to be put where it is now? St Michael’s Golf Club!

Millions of pounds spent on trying to get it back on stream but of no avail? Who makes the decisions on finance?

Who gets the benefits of the Liverpool City Region, the unification we didn’t ask for?

This fiasco of the new bridge It might not be doing much trouble to Halton, but it is crippling the North West region in total.

Never mind, the local elections will be with us soon so anyone who wants a change of who does things in ‘your name’, this may well be the time.

Bring back democracy to Halton.
