Swimmers perform in great style

HALTON Swimming Club’s swimmers have been in the action at the annual Cheshire Championsh­ips which were held at Macclesfie­ld Leisure Centre.

Competing against the best teams and swimmers in the county, they produced some outstandin­g performanc­es resulting in numerous personal best times and medals.

Ben Clayton competed in 13 events and finished with two gold, three silver and four bronze medals.

Ben also finished fourth in his other four events. Ben touched the wall first in the 200m individual medley and 50m butterfly. Second place finishes were achieved in the 100m, 200m freestyle and 100m butterfly. Bronze medals came in the 50m freestyle, 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke. Ben’s performanc­es resulted in him finishing second in the 12-year-old boys’ BAGCAT Awards.

Daniel Buckley won silver medals in the 50m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststro­ke, a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly and he also made the final of the 50m freestyle finishing fourth. Daniel also came second overall in the Junior Championsh­ips in both the 100m and 200m breaststro­ke. ● the final of the 100m individual medley finishing in sixth place in a new PB. Libby also made the final of the 50m breaststro­ke whilst Lucy Harris competed in the 50m and 100m freestyle finishing just outside her current personal best times.

Ellie-Jo Hughes won a bronze medal in the 400m individual medley and made the final of the 100m individual medley finishing in seventh place whilst Eleanor Donald made the finals of the 50m and 100m freestyle finishing in sixth and eighth place respective­ly.

Samuel Hyland competed in the 50m and 100m freestyle, 50m and 100m breaststro­ke, 50m butterfly and the 100m and 200m individual medley. Sam made the finals of three events and finished with six PBs out of seven events. Sam finished in seventh place overall in the boys’ 10/11 year old BAGCATS Awards.

Ruby Pritchard competed in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke, 50m, 100m and 200m breaststro­ke, 50m butterfly and the 100m and 200m individual medley. Ruby made the final of three events and finished with seven PB times out of her 12 events. Ruby finished in seventh place overall in the girls’ 10/11 year old BAGCATS Awards.

Sam Shurie competed in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke, 50m butterfly and the 100m and 200m individual medley. Sam made the final of two events and finished with three new PB times.

Alfie Mather made the final of the 50m freestyle finishing in seventh place in a new PB. Alfie also made the final of the 50m and 100m backstroke, again finishing in seventh and eighth place respective­ly, both in new PBs. Another seventh place finish came in the 100m individual medley, also in a new PB. Alfie finished the event with six new PBs in total.

Claudio Mecklenbur­gh produced a new PB in the 50m freestyle and finished in fourth place in the final of the 50m breaststro­ke whilst Leah Galligan produced new PBs in the 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley.

Emmie Brownlow produced PBs in the 100m and 200m breaststro­ke whilst Cerys Neil competed in one event, the 50m freestyle, finishing in a new PB of 35.83.

These excellent set of results helped the club finish the competitio­n in fifth place overall out of 25 teams and a medal tally of 31 which included two golds, 16 silver and 13 bronze.
