Paul Woods recovered a point for Hough Green, only to see the Birchfield take the next three games through Keith Allen & Dave Herley, Trevor Chadwick & Carl Bryan and Ian Sharples & John Leather to ensure they would win the encounter.

Hough Green’s Ste Cosgrove took the next game only for Bernie Teebay and Carl Bryan to wrap up a 7-2 triumph for the home outfit.

The Corpy playing host to the Cricketers Arms started really well, taking three games in a row through Mike Ruane, Dave Cowsan and Alan Moran.

The Cricketers replied with a win from their opening pair, Graham Fenney & Ian Connor, but the Corpy were still determined as another win came from Ian Argent & Dave Pickles.

The Cricketers Arms were still in with a chance as Brian Mercer & Tony Ainsworth added another point for their team.

However their hopes were dashed as three in a row from Jeff Thompson, Dave Pickles and Alan Pennington more than ensured the Corpy Club’s victory.

The Mersey Hotel at home to the Main Top secured the first game through Paul Cotty.

The Top then levelled through Anthony Woodward.

Ray Cowley took the Mersey ahead before a further win from their opening pair, Ray Cowley & John Cotty widened the gap.

However, parity was soon restored with two in a row from Callum Taylor & Sharon Unsworth and Rob Gatcliffe & Mark Middleton.

A further success apiece from the Mersey’s John Cotty and the Top’s Rob Gatcliffe made it 4-4 in what had been a very tight match.

Danny Shipley then took the final game and the match for the Mersey Hotel.
