Ribs are broken in ‘brutal’ assault
DETECTIVES are investigating after a man suffered injuries including three broken ribs in a brutal broad daylight attack in Runcorn.
A Cheshire police spokesman said the incident happened at some time between 10am and 10.30am on Monday as the 26-year-old was walking through Portsmouth Place near the junction with Murdishaw Avenue when two thugs approached and assaulted him, inflicting multiple injuries.
The victim is recovering in hospital.
The spokesman said the suspects were described as men wearing dark clothes.
No weapons are believed to have been used during the assault.
Investigators are keen for witnesses to come forward.
Detective Constable ● Tom Ashton said: “Enquiries in relation to this incident are currently ongoing and we are following a number of lines of enquiry.
“As part of the investigation I’m keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and believes they have any information that could assist our investigation.
“I’d also like to hear from a woman with blonde hair who was seen walking nearby at the time of the incident.”
The spokesman said: “A 26-year-old local man was walking on Portsmouth Place, Runcorn, near to the Murdishaw road junction, when he was approached by two men who subsequently assaulted him.
“As a result of the attack the man sustained a number of injuries, including three broken ribs.
“His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening and he is currently recovering in hospital.”
