Man pleads guilty to shooting boy, 16

A MAN has pleaded guilty to shooting a teenage boy with a sawn-off shotgun in Runcorn

Tony Evans, 28, of Ruthin Court, Castlefiel­ds, Runcorn, admitted possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at Chester Crown Court on Friday.

The pleas relate to an incident in which a 16-year-old boy was shot while sat in a car on The Croft in The Brow area of Runcorn on Thursday, November 30.

Evans appeared by ● video link from HMP Altcourse for the hearing.

The defendant was arrested at the start of January having evaded police during previous weeks.

Crimestopp­ers had offered a £5,000 reward less than a fortnight earlier on December 22 for informatio­n that would lead to his whereabout­s.

His Honour Judge Roger Dutton, presiding at Chester Crown Court, adjourned the case for sentencing, expected to take place no earlier than May 29.

Owen Edwards appeared for the prosecutio­n and Paul Hodgkinson for the defence.
