Boat club building set for axe

A PORTABLE cabin formerly used by West Bank Boat Club in Widnes is due to be demolished.

Halton Borough Council has issued a notice concerning the building at Spike Island.

The portrable cabin and toilet block will be flattened starting on Wednesday, March 21, and is the work is expected to be completed by Friday, April 6.

The application from the council said the buildings are no longer needed because the boat club has new premises and both structures are in a ‘very poor state of disrepair’.

The document said: “The former boat club and toilets will be demolished in accordance with HSE requirements by our term contractor.

“Upon clearance, the building footprints shall be soiled and grass seeded over.”

The remaining boat yard at the site will continue to be used and any recyclable materials will be taken to a waste sorting facility.
