Motorists warned to buckle up

-

POLICE officers in Halton are taking part in an international campaign to remind people to wear a seat belt when they are in a vehicle.

The enforcement campaign runs until Sunday, March 18.

Officers from Cheshire police will be targeting people who are not wearing a seat belt.

Those caught without can receive a fine of between £100 and £500.

Fines can also be handed out if a child under 14 is not in the correct car seat or wearing a seat belt.

The vehicle’s driver must ensure that the child has the correct car seat for their height or weight until they reach 135cms tall or their 12th birthday, whichever is first.

Sergeant Simon Tickle from Cheshire police said: “For most motorists putting on a seat belt has become second nature but there is still a small minority of people who persist in not wearing a seat belt.

“The statistics clear.

“You are twice as likely to be killed in a crash if you are not wearing a are seat belt.

“We will be out stopping those people who are risking their lives and they will be getting an expensive reminder in the post why they should have buckled up.”
