Townley fires home but Lymm prove too strong for Runcorn in derby

-

Runcorn III 1 Lymm III 3 LYMM brought a strong side to Runcorn on Saturday and deservedly ran out winners in this local derby encounter.

However, Runcorn made the visitors work hard for the points and showed a lot of spirit throughout the game.

The first 10 minutes saw Lymm attack regularly and Runcorn’s defence was tested several times.

The momentum changed when Lymm substituted their two strongest players and Runcorn created some half-chances.

When the home side forced their only penalty corner of the match, the well-drilled routine worked and Ian Townley fired Runcorn into the lead.

The rest of the first half was well contested but Runcorn maintained their 1-0 advantage at half-time.

Lymm re-introduced their experienced players and the second half was very much under the visitors’ control.

Despite defending well for the first 15 minutes, the inevitable equalising goal for Lymm arrived.

Runcorn were unable to break out of their own half and two further goals saw the final score 3-1 to the visitors.

Dan White was the pick of the Runcorn players and Kieran Thompson made a promising debut appearance.
