Leigh Miners ‘A’ 10 SIMMIES kicked-off the season with a fine victory against a determined Leigh side after coming back from a 10 point deficit.

Leigh opened the scoring when Connor followed a kick through to touch down under the posts from which teammate Smith converted.

After that score Leigh again came back and scored from another kick which was fumbled by Simmies near the line and Walker scored wide out.

Simmies at last got their act together and Sean Durbin, who was one of four brothers playing, forced his way over for a try which Danny Price converted from wide out.

Simmies kept passing and a lovely pass from Jamie Durbin put Ste Cowell racing through the gap to score and Price converted. Price then booted over a penalty to make it 14-10 at half-time.

Simmies started the second half brightly and good interpassing between Jamie Durbin and Price resulted in Jamie Durbin sprinting under the posts to score. Price again tacked on the extras.

After more good pressure from Simmies’ forwards, Price put teammate Kris Kavanagh over for a good try and. Price once more converted the try.

Simmies should have scored again but a fumble over the line cost them six more points.

The home outfit continued to press the Leigh line and a splendid pass from Price put Brendan Kavanagh over for a well taken try wide out.

In a good all-round team performance, the Riverside Reclaimed Timber man of the match was won by prop forward Martin Murphy with close runner-up Danny Price and Jamie Durbin third. ● This Saturday, Simmies are away at Haresfinch in St Helens. Players and officials are asked to meet at 12.30pm at Dundalk Road.
