Fugitive burglar locked up

-

A BURGLAR from Runcorn who went on the run for eight months was jailed but then strolled out of another prison has finally been caught again.

Detectives twice went to the BBC’s Crimewatch TV programme to appeal for help to find Sean Price after he sneaked into and ransacked two St Helens homes just before Christmas in 2015.

But after being jailed for almost six years, the 31-year-old man was transferred to an open prison at HMP Kirkham in Lancashire, taking advantage of their lax security by just walking out of the front door.

Now, six months later, Price has been caught.

He was arrested in South Yorkshire last week and appeared before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with escaping from lawful custody and conspiracy to steal.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court on ● April 23.

Price was previously jailed for burglary, attempted robbery and racial abuse.

It was heard how he broke into a house on Ash Priors in Widnes and ransacked the property, stealing thousands of pounds worth of jewellery.

On the same day, Price also attempted to break into a house on Rushy View in Newton-LeWillows.

Then, on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, mobile phone footage taken at a car wash in Runcorn showed Price racially abusing a man who worked there.

After being jailed in August 2016, he was later moved to the Category-D prison at Kirkham despite having a track record of evading police.

Price was described as white, around 5ft 11ins tall, of stocky build, with brown hair and brown eyes.

His upper front teeth are chipped and he has a tattoo of a woman’s name on his right arm.

He also has a seven inch scar in the shape of a horse shoe on the back of his left hand.

Following his jailing in 2016, Inspector Chris Adkins, of Widnes Local Policing Unit, said: “I am pleased with the sentence handed to Price.

“These are the types of offences that can have the biggest impact on victims, and it sends a clear message that people who break into homes are likely to end up in prison.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the public who came forward to identify and locate Price, following our appeals on Crimewatch.”
