Heat dreams are made of this – club gets £300 handout

-

WIDNES RUFC is now able to make improvements to its facilities thanks to a £300 donation from Taylor Wimpey North West.

The club, which has more than 20 teams including several junior, senior and ladies teams, is based on Heath Road, just a short distance from Taylor Wimpey North West’s Norlands Green development.

Stephen Morris, president of Widnes RUFC, said: “We’re a very close-knit community and we host a range of events throughout the year which take place in our lounge. Taylor Wimpey’s very generous donation will be put towards refurbishments, including a much-needed new heating system, to ensure we can continue hosting these wonderful events.

“Widnes is very much a sporting town and our club provides a way for many people to keep fit, make friends and be part of a team.”

The club, which formed in 1924 and competes in South Lancs/Cheshire One, is run for the community with the buildings and grounds being maintained by a dedicated team of volunteers.

Emma Lockley, sales manager for Taylor Wimpey North West, said “We’re always happy to support clubs such as this which bring communities together, demonstrate the importance of teamwork and encourage people to stay active.

“We hope this donation will make a difference, even a small one, to the club and we look forward to hearing about even more great events in the future.”
