Price is right in comeback win

-

HALTON SIMMS CROSS ......... 30 LATCHFORD ALBION ............. 28 SIMMIES came back from the dead to win a thrilling game after being behind by 10 points with only five minutes left to play.

Simmies opened the scoring with a fine individual try from Jamie Durbin, which Danny Price converted. Latchford came back to equalise when their best player Sean Boyle darted over for a try which Adam Wood converted to make the score 6-6 at half-time.

Latchford opened the second half brightly and took the lead when Lewis Johnson powered his way over the line for a try, from which Wood converted.

Simmies drew level with the try of the match when Danny Price picked up a loose ball and ran 70 metres to outpace everybody and score under the posts. Price himself converted to make the score 12-12.

Once again, Latchford went ahead, this time with a try by David McGuiness. To their credit, Simmes again came downfield and John Cooke forced his way over for a try which Price converted to put Simmies ahead once more.

Latchford then took the game to Simmies and scored two quick tries from Boyle and Mike Smith, both of which were converted by Wood to give themselves that seemingly unassailable 10-point lead.

Simmies though would not be denied and Price and Jamie Durbin combined to put Sean Durbin over wide out.

Price kicked a great conversion to leave Simmies just four behind.

Deep into injury time, Mike Randall broke through and passed to Price, who outpaced the opposition to score another great try under the posts. Price then kicked the winning conversion and the referee blew up for full-time in what was an exhilarating and entertaining game.

The Riverside Reclaimed Timber man of the match was won by Price with Jamie Durbin, Carl Hunt and Martin Murphy all putting in good performances. Simmies’ next game is on April 7, away to Hindpool from Barrow.
