Charges after boy wounded

-

TWO teenagers have been charged after an alleged knife attack on a 16-year-old boy in Runcorn.

Cheshire police said the suspects, aged 16 from Runcorn and Liverpool, are accused of robbery and possession of a bladed article.

One of them is also charged with grievous bodily harm and assault by beating.

They have been bailed to appear at Warrington Youth Court on May 9.

Police arrested the boys after officers attended reports of a serious assault in a litter ● and glass-strewn subway near Windmill Hill shops at 4.45pm on Wednesday.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesman said they found a 16-year-old with a wound to his face.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and discharged.

Police initially reported that two teenagers from Liverpool had been arrested.

The spokesman said: “Two 16-year-olds, one from Runcorn and one from Liverpool, have been charged with robbery and possession of a bladed article.

“One of the teenagers has also been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and assault by beating.

“They will appear before Warrington Youth Court on May 9.”

The incident took place following a spike in knife-related offences in Runcorn over the previous week, ending an apparent lull in serious harm offences brought about by a blitz on blade possession in the town during January and February, and that resulted in a knife being taken off the streets every other day.
