Ellison certainly not amused by Victoria decision

-

RUNCORN LINNETS boss Michael Ellison raged at Hallmark Security League organisers this week after their game with Northwich Victoria was postponed on Tuesday evening.

Linnets fans had organised a sponsored walk to the ground to watch the game that evening, and some disappointed supporters reported being halfway to the stadium before finding out about the cancellation. Pictures of the pitch were shared online after the announcement which led to many bemused fans asking how the game had been called off. Ellison was in the same boat.

He said: “I’m disappointed. We had a group of fans that were there before kick-off and seemed to think the pitch was on. It baffles me. I can’t get my head round it. I just don’t know. I don’t know the ins-and-outs but the two clubs wanted the game on and the referee calls it off for whatever reason. Our fans were doing a sponsored walk to their club and everyone has seen the pictures – it’s frustrating to say the least.”

When asked if it could be seen as a positive, with two days extra rest period before tonight’s scheduled away clash with Ashton Athletic (kick-off 7.45pm) Ellison rubbished the suggestion.

“No, it’s not. We don’t play Saturday – the second Saturday we haven’t had a game. We’ve had our league game changed to accommodate a cup game. It’s ridiculous. Everyone is trying to do their best and we’re doing our best to get games rearranged and the league have knocked us back when we’ve offered to play games at our ground.

“The League have knocked us back saying it’s an unfair advantage. It’s ridiculous. There’s teams who ground share in our League so I don’t see what the problem is.”

He added: “You’d think common sense would prevail but it’s just not the case. I don’t want to be disrespecting the League because they’ve got a tough job. But sometimes the decisions they make baffles you.”
