Tom takes chains of office at Probus
RETIRED engineering inspector Tom Bellfield has been appointed chairman of Runcorn probus having accepted the chain of officer from his predecessor Brian Wood.
A group spokesman said Tom worked for ICI for 45 years and is a family man, with three children and four grandchildren who occupy a lot of his time. Since retiring, he has been able to spend more time on his hobbies, the main one which is gardening but also with keen interests in DIY, performing music and cruising holidays.
His predecessor Brian used is closing speech to recall an ‘eventful year, enjoyable but tinged with sadness’ over the loss of several long-standing members.
He thanked the officers, committee and membership for their support throughout the year in particular those who organised outings and events for everyone to enjoy.
Tom thanked members for electing him and said he was looking forward to his year in office as well as Brian for keeping the club in good stead for him to take on.
He added that he hoped to continue in the same vein, spreading friendship, cordiality and encouraging members to ● join, closing his speech by welcoming the club’s incoming committee.
The club meets on the first Tuesday of each month at the Sycamore Room at the Heath Business And Technical Park conference centre, subject to occasional change.
Meetings start at 9.45am with a discussion of club business followed by a coffee break, after which a speaker gives a presentation on their chosen topic for the week.
The club also organises outings such as walks, bowling and dining out.
Application for membership is open to any retired male living in Halton and its environs.
