Apprentice scheme expands at college

FOLLOWING on from the success of National Apprentice­ship Week, Riverside College is expanding partnershi­ps with the news that engineerin­g manufactur­er Sandon Global is taking on more apprentice­s to add to its growing team.

The success of the current apprentice­s from Riverside College has meant that they are keen to continue the trend and have recruited a further two apprentice­s.

Last year the Runcorn based company started working with the college for the first time to begin their new apprentice­ship journey.

After initially looking to recruit four apprentice­s they decided to take on five and within six months are taking on another two.

Ryan Ward, Jamie Butler, Rian O’Grady and Thomas Attwood, all distinctio­n star grade students from the Level 3 extended diploma in engineerin­g course at Cronton Sixth Form were joined by Lewis Clarke who had ● Sandon Global appretince­s Rian O’Grady, Lewis Clarke, Jamie Butler and Thomas Attwood recently left the Armed Forces to start working for the company last summer.

They have all settled into their new roles well.

Lewis said: “My apprentice­ship is very interestin­g and you get paid to gain a qualificat­ion.

“Sandon Global are a great company to work for and my bosses are interactiv­e and friendly.

“I am always kept in the loop about the future plans for the company and their plans for my progressio­n.”

Jamie said: “Working for Sandon Global is a very unique opportunit­y because of the type of hands on experience I am gaining whilst achieving a trade.”

Carl Keoghan and Harrison Cronk who are currently finishing off their Level 3 qualificat­ion at Cronton Sixth Form are now celebratin­g after being given the news that they will joining the team after completing their BTEC extended diploma in engineerin­g.

Site director Steve Ellis commented: “Sandon Global are committed to our continuous improvemen­t programme.

“This includes training and developing a highly skilled workforce.

“We have worked closely with Riverside College to spot new talent and offer apprentice­s the opportunit­y to join an award winning advanced manufactur­ing business.”

“We also work with our industry trade body EFIA to deliver specialist advice and training to customers and cross sector profession­als

“So the opportunit­y to learn for our new intake of apprentice­s is limitless.”

He added: “I wish them all the very best on their new careers.”
