Reservist joins Army exercise

-

AN Army Reservist from Widnes, recently swapped her day job as a nurse, for two weeks on the sundrenched Rock Of Gibraltar.

Corporal Jasmine Hamer, normally works at Salford Royal, but in her spare time she serves with 208 (Liverpool) Field Hospital.

In total around 100 soldiers from 208 and 201 (Newcastle) Field Hospital, travelled to Gibraltar, where they took part in a military and adventure training package.

The military training exercise was designed to test their military skills, leadership skills and ability to work as part of a team in a challenging environment.

Corporal Hamer who has served with 208 Field Hospital for two years thoroughly enjoyed the training.

She felt also it was good chance to form links with 208’s sister unit 201 Field Hospital.

She acknowledged it was a great opportunity to engage in adventure training and said she learned a lot about the history of Gibraltar.

In the past, field hospital training has revolved around the purpose-built military hospital at Camp Bastion, but now it is returning to its original role of treating the sick ● and injured under canvas, at short notice anywhere in the world.

After the demands of the military exercise, there was time to take part in adventure training, which included walking, sailing and paddle boarding.

Members of 201 and 208 also took the chance to complete the famous Rock Run from the base of the Rock Of Gibraltar, this meant getting up very early in the morning, before the temperature began to soar.
