College plays host to public health event

RIVERSIDE College was recently host to the Halton People’s Health Forum Student Conference, an event organised by Riverside College in collaboration with Halton Clinical Commissioning Group which aims to ensure health and social care is available for people in the borough.
CCG events provide an chance for members of the public to find out more about the CCG’s work on health are and wellbeing.
The event at the college was also a chance for students to learn first-hand about possible future careers in the NHS and health care sectors.
CCG chair Dr David Lyon and chief nurse Michelle Creed welcomed attendees which included Halton mayor John Bradshaw.
A range of guest speakers took to the stage to share personal stories and pro- vide information on challenging subjects including domestic abuse, mental health, suicide, stress and online safety.
Speakers included Pride Of Britain Award winner Katie Walker, Jonathan Goggins from Time To Change, Joann Hitchen from PAPYRUS, and Leah Jennerway from Cheshire police.
At the end of the conference students had the opportunity to visit display stands and ask further questions about the topics raised.
Rosie Byrom, counselling lecturer at the college, said: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn more about the support that is available in our local community.
“Presentations from guest speakers were inspirational and informative.
“We are already looking forward to the next event.” ●
